0 Stock Market Analysis for Today

The pre-opening session of the market began with the Nifty and Sensex indicating a flat start today. Normal trading will start at 9.15 am.The Indian market opens for trade this morning on a flat-to-positive note. Sensex started in normal trading at 17279, up 65 points from its previous close, and Nifty was at 5244, up 17 points. CNX Midcap index was up 0.3% and BSE Smallcap index was up 0.4%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 564 against declines of 179 on the NSE.

Inflation Data Released Today 16 July 2012:-

Inflation: June WPI inflation has come in at 7.25% versus 7.55% in May. April inflation has been revised to 7.5% versus 7.23%.  
Inflation: June primary articles inflation is at 10.46% vs 10.8%, fuel group at 10.27% vs 11.53%, food articles at 10.8% vs 10.74% while manufactured products inflation is at 5.00% vs 5.02% (MoM).
                                  
After encouraging June inflation number, the market moved back into the green and was trading with marginal gains. Sensex was at 17224, up 10 points from its previous close, and Nifty was at 5231, up 3 points. CNX Midcap index was down 0.2% and BSE Smallcap index was down 0.02%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 667 against declines of 685 on the NSE.

The markets lost all the early gains in the afternoon and closed negative. IT, metal, realty and power were the worst performers in today's session and auto and capital goods, too, lost significantly. Healthcare, consumer durables and oil & gas closed positive. The Sensex closed at 17103, down 110 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5197, down 30 points. The CNX Midcap index was down 0.6% while the BSE Smallcap index also lost 0.6% in today's trade. The market breadth was negative with advances at 507 against declines of 936 on the NSE. The top Nifty gainers were Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki, Dr Reddy's and Axis Bank while the biggest losers included Tata Steel, TCS, Tata Motors and Jindal Steel.
